5 Mistakes That Get Homeschool Transcripts Rejected

Small formatting and consistency errors are the most common reason a transcript gets a second, skeptical look. Here's how to avoid them.

1. Inconsistent grading scales

Switching between letter grades, percentages, and pass/fail across years makes a transcript hard to read and easy to distrust. Pick one primary scale and stick to it.

2. Missing credit values

A course without a credit value can't be weighted into a GPA. Every entry needs a credit number — typically 1.0 for a full-year course and 0.5 for a semester.

3. Vague course titles

"Science" tells an admissions officer nothing. "Biology with Lab" tells them everything. Use the same course names a traditional high school would.

4. No certification

An unsigned transcript reads as a draft. A short certification line with a parent signature turns it into an official record.

5. Doing the math by hand

Manual GPA calculation is where errors creep in. Let software handle the weighting so the numbers are always right.
